Using Network
With Intel® PROSet/Wireless
Software, you can establish a regular TCP/IP networking connection with
the device. Most mobile phones provide Bluetooth* networking service.
Using such services, you can establish a regular TCP/IP networking
connection with the device.
Supported profiles and roles:
- Personal Area Network Profile (PAN) PAN-U Client:
allows you to join existent Bluetooth* PAN
network or establish point to point connection
- Personal Area Network Profile (PAN) PAN-GN Group
Ad-hoc Network: allows you to build Point to Multipoint PAN network
- Dial-Up Networking Profile (DUN) Data Terminal:
allows you to connect to the Internet using Bluetooth*
wireless technology modem device
- Fax Profile (FAX) Data Terminal: allows you to
send FAX messages using your device
In a Bluetooth* network one of the devices
operates as a server and another one as a client. The server owns the network
and tracks the devices connected to it. Depending on the role you want to
assign to your computer, there are four options in the Networking section of
the service view:
- Join a local Bluetooth Network – Your computer acts as a
network client and only one network connection can be active at a time.
- Build a Local Bluetooth Network – Your computer acts as a
server and it is possible to connect several devices to your network simultaneously.
- Access the Internet via Dial-up Connection – Your computer
acts as data terminal to access the Internet or send FAX messages using your
Bluetooth* enabled device.
- Access an External Network via a Bluetooth Gateway – Your
computer gains access to an external network which your device offers.
Joining a network
To join or build a network with you device, follow these steps:
- Put your device into discoverable state and find your
device in the device list: open the My Bluetooth window; if your device
is not displayed, perform a search for devices.
- Double-click on the device icon to open the My Bluetooth
device window displaying all the available services.
Your device may require authentication (or pairing) to allow connection
or even searching for services.
- Click Connect button in the Join a local Bluetooth Network or
Build a Local Bluetooth Network section in the Networking
group that corresponds to the type of networking you want to do (Join or
Build).
You may need to perform additional actions on your device to accept the connection.
As soon as connection is established, the My
Bluetooth device window is updated to inform you of the established connection.
At the same time the Connect button in the other sections of Networking
group is disabled.
To disconnect network connection with your device, click
Disconnect button in the Join a local Bluetooth Network or
section Build a Local Bluetooth Network section of the Networking
group.
Accessing the Internet via a dial-up connection
To access the Internet via dial-up connection with your
device, follow these steps:
- Put your device into discoverable state and find your
device in the device list: open the My Bluetooth window; if your device
is not displayed, perform a search for devices.
- Double-click on the device icon to open the My Bluetooth
device window displaying all the available services.
Your device may require authentication (or pairing) to allow
connection or even searching for services.
- Click Connect button in the Access the Internet
via Dial-Up Connection section in the Networking group.
As soon as the modem driver is configured, the window is updated
to inform you of the new Bluetooth* dial-up connection.
You may need to perform additional actions on your device to accept the
connection.
- Click Dial... link in the Access the Internet via Dial-Up connection
section to configure dial-up settings and access to an the Internet.
To send FAX messages you can configure a FAX application and
use installed Bluetooth* modem device.
To stop using existing Bluetooth* dial-up connection, click
Uninstall button in the Access the Internet via Dial-Up Connection
section in the Networking group.
Accessing an external network
To access an external network via your device (used as a gateway),
follow these steps:
- Configure an external network on your device.
- Put your device into discoverable state and find your
device in the device list: open the My Bluetooth window; if your device
is not displayed, perform a search for devices.
- Double-click on the device icon to open the My Bluetooth
device window displaying all the available services.
Your device may require authentication (or pairing) to allow
connection or even searching for services.
- Click Connect button in the Access an External
Network via a Gateway section in the Networking group.
As soon as connection is established, the My Bluetooth device window is
updated to inform you of the established connection. At the same time the Connect
button in the other sections of Networking group is disabled. You
may need to perform additional actions on your device to accept the
connection.
- Open an internet browser to gain access to the external network.
To disconnect from an existing network connection, click Disconnect
button in the Access an External Network via a Gateway section of the
Networking group.
